levi's travelblog

Since I´m going traveling for a pretty lengthy time, I decided to skip the group emails and instead write a weblog. Please go ahead and post replies if the spirit moves you, or send me an email. I can´t promise timely replies though as I probably won´t be spending much time on the internet. However, I can promise to try and keep the blog interesting and not too long!

By the way, the plastic banana bags are an industry standard. They keep the pests away and create a temperature and moisture controlled microclimate for the fruit. Most commercial farms also lace the bags with the insecticide Dursban (chlorpyriphos) - also an industry standard; used extensively in Guatemala. The bags often get discarded after use and end up clogging waterways.

wow, thanks anh-thi, for the education and for enjoying the blog. given how much time i've spent writing it, it's nice to hear that it took 2.5 hours to read ;). I'll try to get the correct photo of the banana trees with plastic bags posted soon.
